Pete Ochs is founder and chairman of Capital III, an impact investment company with investments in the US and Central America.  Enterprise Stewardship is an initiative of Capital III that equips marketplace leaders with resources to transform their personal LIFE and business enterprises. During his four decades in business he has invested and operated companies in the energy, manufacturing, banking, and education sectors, often times focusing on places devoid of human flourishing such as prisons and poverty-stricken countries. Pete’s passion in life is to educate, equip, and empower business leaders around the world to live for something greater than themselves by using their business platform to impact the world for Christ.  

Pete lives by four simple principles: Honor God; Serve People; Pursue Excellence; and Steward Capital.   These four simple but powerful principles when brought to bear on creating Economic, Social and Spiritual Capital result in a High Impact LIFE.   

Before launching his impact investment company Capital III, Pete spent 8 years in the commercial banking industry. Pete and his wife Debbie have been instrumental in founding and growing several nonprofit enterprises. They live in Valley Center, Kansas.  They have 2 children and 8 grandchildren.

Marissa Maren

Busana Apparel Group

Marissa is passionate about using business as a vehicle for shining God’s light and truth into the world. At Busana Apparel Group, Marissa develops new business opportunities and drives corporate strategy. The group’s factories in Indonesia and Ethiopia employ over 27,000 people, of which 90% are young women around Marissa’s age. She is thankful for the opportunity to serve God in this family business, founded by her late father.

Prior to working with Busana Apparel Group in Jakarta, Marissa worked in Barclays Capital’s investment banking division in New York. Marissa started her career at Lehman Brothers, where she lived through the firm’s collapse in 2008.

Since 2008, Marissa has actively pursued spiritual integration in faith and work. In New York, while attending Redeemer Presbyterian Church, she was a fellow of the 9-month Gotham Fellowship in 2011. In Jakarta, Marissa joined the 6-month Kingdom Entrepreneurship Academy (KEA) in 2014 and subsequently served as a Director of KEA from 2015 until 2018.

Marissa earned a Bachelor of Science degree magna cum laude from Tufts University with a major in mechanical engineering and a minor in entrepreneurial leadership. She is currently pursuing an executive Masters in Business Administration at the University of Oxford.

Life:

Born into a multicultural family, with an Irish- and Swedish-American mother and an Indian-Indonesian father, Marissa has lived over half of her life in Indonesia, where she currently resides with her husband Jared

Author and founder | Stagecoach Ventures

Max is an entrepreneur and author. He is the founder of Stagecoach Ventures and author of the The Weekend Reader, a deep thinker’s guide to modern culture, and is the Author of Modern Meditations: Reflections from the Mid-Point of the Second Decade of the Twenty-first Century. Max is the founder and CEO of The Lift Seminar—a personal accelerator for entrepreneurs, and a platform for teaching MBAs at the world’s top business schools the secrets of massive personal productivity.

Max co-founded the MBA Oath upon graduating with honors from Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School in 2009. He co-authored a book of the same title, The MBA Oath (Penguin Portfolio) with Peter Escher in 2010.

Max has spoken at universities, companies, and not-for-profit organizations across the United States and Europe. His work has been profiled by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, NPR’s Weekend Edition, and dozens of other media outlets.

Max received an A.B. in History from Princeton University. He began his career at McKinsey & Co. in New York City, followed by work with leading organizations across the for-profit and non-profit world including Google, The Charlie Rose Show, Redeemer Presbyterian Church and, most recently, Bridgewater Associates — where he served in a number of leadership capacities as a member of the firm’s senior management cohort and as director of the firm’s Investment Associate leadership program.

Nancy Duarte

communication expert

Nancy Duarte is a communication expert who has been featured in Fortune, Time Magazine, Forbes, Fast Company, Wired, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, LA Times, and on CNN. Her firm, Duarte, Inc., is the global leader behind some of the most influential visual messages in business and culture. As a persuasion expert, she cracked the code for effectively incorporating story patterns into business communications. She’s written five best-selling books, four of which have won awards.

Nancy worked with Al Gore on the documentary slide show known as An Inconvenient Truth. Duarte has also worked with TED Talks on quality changes for the presentations given at their events, and has presented her own TED Talks as well. She has been cited by publications writing about presentation style including The Guardian. Nancy holds an MDE from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA.

Phil Olsen

Phil is President of Know Your Strengths, a human resource consulting firm that guides clients and executive-level management through processes for talent discovery, training and people management. He is also a Certified DynaMetrics Professional (CDMP) with Professional DynaMetric Programs. CDMP is PDP’s highest attainable credential dealing with the recognition of human potential and its applications in human performance. He is credentialed by the Society for Human Resource Management as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). 

In addition to a degree in business from Utah State University, Phil’s business skills and visionary talents have been shaped and developed through three decades of entrepreneurial business endeavors. His business experience includes management consulting, real estate development, brokerage, investments, mortgage banking, syndications and automotive dealerships. 

Phil’s competitive drive was forged in the fire of athletic competition. He was a two-time football All-American at Utah State University, an NFL first-round draft choice and a 9-year pro football veteran. Phil was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in the State of Utah in 1985. He’s a member of the Sports Hall of Fame at Utah State University and is also a member of USU’s All Century Team. In 2000, Phil was selected by Sports Illustrated as one of the Top Fifty Athletes of the Century from the State of Utah. In 2003-2007 and again in 2011, he was selected to the final list of candidates for the NCAA College Football Hall of Fame. 

Phil’s character and values are easily seen in his dedication to his family, his clients and his friends, as well as through his personal commitment to assist others. Phil and his wife Connie have been married for 43 years. They have two happily-married daughters and five grandchildren.

Michael Sipe
