Xavier Morales has been president and owner of FXM Ingredients for Success since 1988. FXM provides food ingredients for the Mexican market. During his career as a chemical engineer, Xavier has worked at a variety of companies including Anderson Clayton, Liquid Carbonic, Dupont, Cydsa, and Gamesa-Nabisco. At age 42 God moved Xavier to start his own business founded on biblical principles, including honoring God, integrity, innovation, and service. The company represents more than 30 international companies and provides ingredients for the most important food companies in the country. They have developed a special Character First program where teams are trained and study a monthly character trait, which has created a culture of service, unity, and motivation. Every Monday the whole company shares a devotional from the Word of God and joins in prayer for His blessing. God has blessed this company and its resources have been used to help widows, grant scholarships, and develop a child evangelism program (APEN) for the whole country.

Xavier and his wife Gloria have been married for 48 years and have three daughters, five granddaughters, and two grandsons. They live in Houston, Texas where they attend Second Baptist Church and serve in the marriage ministry, leading Financial Freedom seminars, and collaborate as Sunday school teachers.

Yu-Kai Chou

Author and International Keynote Speaker on Gamification and Behavioral Design

Yu-kai Chou is an Author and International Keynote Speaker on Gamification and Behavioral Design. He is the Original Creator of the Octalysis Framework, and the author of Actionable Gamification: Beyond Points, Badges, and Leaderboards. He is currently President of The Octalysis Group and the Founder of Octalysis Prime, a Gamified Mentorship Platform. Yu-kai has been a regular speaker/lecturer on gamification and motivation worldwide, including at organizations like Google, Stanford University, LEGO, Tesla, TEDx, Boston Consulting Group, Turkish Airline, Huawei, the governments of UK, Singapore, South Korea, Kingdom of Bahrain, and many more. His work has affected over 1 Billion users’ experiences across the world.

Yu-kai was one of the earliest pioneers in Gamification, starting his work in the industry in 2003. In 2015, Yu-kai was rated #1 among the “Gamification Gurus Power 100” by RISE, and was also awarded the “Gamification Guru of the Year” Award in 2014, 2015 and 2017 by the World Gamification Congress and the Gamification Europe Conference.  He has helped a variety of companies, from seed stage startups to Fortune 500 companies such as LEGO, Uber, Volkswagen/Porsche, Sberbank, eBay, Fidelity Investments, AIG Japan, Verizon, and more. Previously, Yu-kai was the Chief Experience Officer of the Blockchain company Decentral, working with the Co-Founder of Ethereum Anthony Di Iorio to create delightful Blockchain experiences. Yu-kai is a follower of Christ, and his other hobbies include playing/teaching chess, writing/playing string quartet pieces, supporting his Esports Team, rating high quality movies, though he rarely has time for these hobbies. Yu-kai is the proud father of his twin daughters, Symphony and Harmony.

How to Transition Between Work Time and Personal Time

In this season that has driven many people to work from home, the lines between work and personal time have become blurry. Although some have more time to spend as commutes are no longer a part of life, it’s easy to transition from one “mode” into another. Physical presence doesn’t always equate to mental presence. You could be sitting at your desk but more preoccupied about a home repair than the assignment at hand, or you could be at the kitchen table thinking more about the proposal you have to finish than the people eating dinner with you. That’s why transitions from work mode to personal mode are so essential. And you have to make an especially intentional effort on these transitions when you work from home because you don’t have the natural change of context cues.

Focus takes intentional effort and can feel difficult at times, especially in the midst of massive uncertainty. But by following these tips, it is possible to be present most of the time when you’re working or in your personal time.

Trae Stephens is a Principal at Founders Fund, where he focuses on startups operating in the government space.

Previously, Trae was an early employee at Palantir Technologies, where he led teams focused on growth in the intelligence/defense space as well as international expansion, helping large organizations solve their hardest data analysis problems. He was also an integral part of the product team, leading the design and strategy for new product offerings.
