Chuck Alley
cellular immunologist
Chuck Alley received his B.S. and M.A. in Biology from the College of William and Mary and his Ph.D. from the Department of Anatomy of VCU/Medical College of Virginia. His teaching and research career included three institutions; VCU/MCV, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of Alabama in Birmingham Medical Center. As a cellular immunologist, Chuck’s interests were concentrated in the areas of mucosal immunology and autologous bone marrow transplantation.
Through his involvement in Young Life and the church, he discerned a call to ordained ministry. In 1991, he received an M. Div. from Virginia Theological Seminary and was in parish ministry for 26 years. In addition to parish ministry, he served on the design committee for the Community Forums on Science and Religion (VCU/MCV), as Chairman of the Communion Partner Clergy Advisory Board, a member of the Board of Directors for the Anglican Communion Institute, the Board of the Cramner Institute, and the Board of Langano Harvest Farm. In his retirement, Chuck has return to teaching as an adjunct Associate Professor of Anatomy at VCU/MCV.
Chuck and his wife, Scottie, live in Richmond, VA. They have three children and nine grandchildren.
